SJGF in West Virginia
WHY WV?
For a very special reason, WV is the home to the first SJGF chapter outside of VA. Team WV, was created to honor Julia’s life and legacy in a place that is near and dear to the Knight family. Although our Original Raindancer, Julia Grace, lived most of her 12 years in Bristow, Virginia, she was born in West Virginia and lived in Hurricane, WV until her family moved to Northern Virginia when she was two years old.
Julia's mom and SJGF Founder, Sara Knight (Hoover) says Julia's personality showed her connection to their home state because she had a little bit of sweet, yet sassy, ‘mountain momma’ running through her veins.
"One of her favorite places to go was our family cabin in Pocahontas County. She loved being outside in the fresh mountain air during the day, going for walks, and spending time with her family around the campfire at night. She loved having her family all together in one place. After Julia passed away, I knew that the beauty, and peace and quiet of those same mountains was where she belonged. She deserved the most beautiful and most peaceful resting place there was, and well, West Virginia is almost heaven,” says Julia's mom.
Julia was laid to rest near their family cabin in the beautiful mountains of Pocahontas County, West Virginia.
Team WV is based in Hurricane, WV and Putnam County serves as our SJGF home base. Since 2018, SJGF has been helping Raindancer families in the Metro Valley, Central WV, and Mid-Ohio Valley and expanded to Pocahontas County in 2025. In 2023, SJGF rolled out the SJGF Hospital Program to provide care packages to families being cared for at CAMC in Charleston, WV. Founder, Sara Knight makes frequent trips to WV for SJGF and is available for meetings and speaking with groups during her visits.

Walk-N-Roll for SJGF
Our Raindancers are so important and they deserve to be celebrated—not just on Walk-N-Roll day, but every single day.
This event isn't just about crossing a finish line or raising money and awareness for SJGF—it is about showing our Raindancers and their families that they are deeply valued, celebrated, and supported. Their courage inspires us. They are the reason we “dance” and the heartbeat behind everything we do.

Host a Packing Party & Bring Sunshine to families being cared for at CAMC!
SJGF provides a monthly donation of Parent Care Packages and Little Boxes of Sunshine to CAMC Women and Children's Hospital. This program is only made possible with the help of groups in the community (businesses, churches, clubs, families, schools, etc) who host a 'Party with a Purpose', collect the items and then pack the care packages. SJGF provides the instructions and the tote bags and/or yellow boxes and your group fills them with a whole lotta love!
